As the table above shows the market trend in Ventura County differs from location to location. This year, in some places such as Camarillo, the drop in the Real Estate Market prices was as much as 20% while in other places such as Thousand Oaks the Market stayed strong and showed no changes from last year. On the other hand, the real estate market has actually seen some increases in some places in Ventura County. The median price of a home in Oak Park this year increased by 46% since the same time last year.
So now with the news about job cut-offs by Amgen in Newbury Park and Countrywide in Calabasas are we to expect a further drop in the median house prices in Ventura County?
Stay tuned for my next month's report to see how the Real Estate Market reacted to these announcements.

The California State's annual Standardized Testing and Reporting program, or STAR,
results were released and Pleasant Valley School District, PVSD, has scored high.
The STAR tests, test students in grades 2-12 in language arts and mathematics and rate them by percentage in one of five categories: advanced, proficient, basic, below basic and far below basic.
According to a teacher at Camarillo Heights Elementary School and the Camarillo Acorn students at PVSD scored higher than all the other students in both Ventura County and the State of California.
I would like to congratulate all the students attending the Pleasant Valley School District for their hard work and outstanding scores. You all make us very proud.
I would also like to thank all of our devoted PVSD teachers who so consistently dedicate their time towards the education of our children.
Camarillo's five year plan to beautify its Old Town has unexpectedly been delayed by up to two years by Taft Corporation. They have plans to develop the Swedish Performance Auto Repair lot in Old Town Camarillo into a mixed use building. The lower level would house retail space while the upper level would include 10 townhouses.
Although Taft Corporation has received an overwhelming interest in the retail spaces, the corporation still feels uneasy with the sales of the residential real estate portion of the project. The corporation's hesitation is the result of the slow housing market that has affected the whole country. At this point the president of Taft Corporation has stated that they would rather wait for another two years than to build now and risk burdening their company.
The question that I would like to ask the President of Taft Corporation is what kind of guarantees is he giving the City of Camarillo that the housing market will improve in the next 2 years? What if the profit his company was expecting to gain falls farther down the chart in the next 2 years?
It amazes me that Taft Corporation and their profit are going to delay our city's plan for Old Town Camarillo.

Ventura County Leads the Way in Green Waste Recycling
The California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989, states that each county in the State of California must divert 50% of its waste away from landfills by the year 2000. Since then, Ventura County has taken a stand to help improve the California environment in many different ways.
The process that makes Ventura County noticeably different from other California Counties is our extensive
Green Waste Recycling. As one of California's leading agricultural counties, the green waste recycling program is set up in a way that all of the green waste that Ventura County residents and Ventura County businesses deposit in their yard waste bins is processed and returned to the agricultural soils. Given that much of California's waste is organic material, this plan helps our county to meet the Integrated Waste Management Act requirements. Meaning the landfills get less packed, our farm lands see the benefit, and something positive is done for the Ventura County environment.

Christmas Has a New Guardian Angel
Greg Chavez, a firefighter from Camarillo, California, is this year's $1 million winner of "American Inventor", a reality based show on ABC. Thanks to Greg Chavez Christmas is going to be a lot safer for those who purchase his new invention the "Guardian Angel".
Greg's invention would appear as a small present under a Christmas tree. However, this present is a small pressurized tank of water connected to a small hose which runs to the top of the tree. On the top a temperature-sensitive fusible link is disguised as an angel. In an event of a fire, the heat causes the link to pops and dispenses three gallons of water within 4 seconds all over the tree. At the same time an alarm goes off to alert the occupants to leave the house.
Here in Camarillo and Ventura County, we are very proud of our dear Mr. Chavez. For his continues service and now his life saving invention.
Congratulations to Greg Chavez and his family.
