Ventura County Real Estate, Green Waste Recycling in Ventura County

Ventura County Leads the Way in Green Waste Recycling

The California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989, states that each county in the State of California must divert 50% of its waste away from landfills by the year 2000.  Since then, Ventura County has taken a stand to help improve the California environment in many different ways.

The process that makes Ventura County noticeably different from other California Counties is our extensive Green Waste CycleGreen Waste Recycling. As one of California's leading agricultural counties, the green waste recycling program is set up in a way that all of the green waste that Ventura County residents and Ventura County businesses deposit in their yard waste bins is processed and returned to the agricultural soils. Given that much of California's waste is organic material, this plan helps our county to meet the Integrated Waste Management Act requirements. Meaning the landfills get less packed, our farm lands see the benefit, and something positive is done for the Ventura County environment.

Mana start your own compost bin and you benefit from not having to use fuel to haul it away and the rich soil to use in your flower beds. If you are trying to be green why use a truck to haul the good stuff away?

James, I don't have to Haul it away. Our cities have designated days for trash pick ups and on those days the green waste is picked up as well.

Our city/county started that and all of a sudden went dead. They're supposed to revive it again.

Mana - I miss my green trash can we had in California and Arizona. No such thing here in Indiana. Can you imagine they have "trash trucks" with men riding on the back, who pick up the bags......

Back Home in Indiana:)

Mana,

Our local city recycles yard waste into wood chip mulch and compost - glad to hear Ventura County is keeping this material out of the landfill.

Paula, Ouch, I can't imagine not having the green waste trash cans.

Rita; That is great, I guess our cities are doing their job.

Ashley, Thank you.

Thesa, We all have to do something to help, and recycling green waste is one way

Mana--Ventura County is so ahead of the game with green recycling. It is against the law to put yard waste into trash bins in Minnesota so homeowners have to bring leaves, sticks, grass clippings and other yard debris to compost sites. Being on acreage, we can have our own compost area for leaves and can burn sticks and brush but others must load down cars/trucks to properly remove. What a great area to live in!

This is a great idea. The more inventive people become in handling what we deem as waste, the longer we'll have a better earth to enjoy.

Mana - We don't have any green recycling here!  Just recently were were given larger cans for the regular recyclables.  Sounds like Ventura County is ahead of the game!

I can't even get the county to supply me with recycle bins!  It's CRAZY!  I asked for months when I first moved in a few years ago and they told me they weren't doing "recycling" in my neighborhood.  NOW...I see everyone with them but ME!
