A Different Perspective on Life

I am surrounded by a group of wonderful friends. We are very close and since our children are about the same age, we participate in a lot of family activities together. I love my friends and enjoy the way we take care of each other and those who might need our help.

Yesterday I received this email from one of my friends. It seems such an appropriate piece for this time of the year that I thought I should share it with my cyber friends.

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of Farmshowing him how poor people live.  They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"
  "It was great, Dad."
"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.
  "Oh yeah," said the son.
"So, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

 The son answered

Dogs and Kids"I saw that we have one dog and they had four."

"We have a pool  that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creekcreek that has no end."

"We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night."

Horizon"Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon."

"We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight."Fields

"We have servants who serve us, but theyGroup Of Friends serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

Then his son added,  "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

The boy's father was speechless.
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your family and friends!

Jasonizer, I am busy with the holiday preparations and all. Our family and friends have almost something going on for every day of the week. It is a lot of fun, but at the same time exhausting.

Beautiful Mana. And so true. I long for the simple life. Someday I hope to truly be rid of all my "necessities" in life so I can appreciate the simple things. I grew up with very little and really didn't start making serious money until my 40s. Times were simpler then. There are days when I wish I could go back. But of course now I have too many obligations and responsibilities that come with "success".

Mana, you are right. It's all how you look at something.

I have never lost sight of the simple life....I have lived through "stuff" and found that it doesn't make me happy.  It's been a long journey to get to this point of .....bliss :) Happy Holidays!

Broker Bryant, Those are such wise words and I truly believe that with more success comes more responsibility. I teach that to my 10 and 8 year old all the time.

Sally, Good for you my friend, but for some people a wake up call might be a good idea.

Very Nice Mana...  The best things in life are free and that is so true to a certain extent.  Huge chunks of land to enjoy are expensive to own but if you can find the balance to appreciate what you have you'll find your own wealth.

Dan, What you say is so, so true. It is by father's dream now to live the way you described and get away from all the headaches that are associated with wealth.

Jill & Ron, I think we all feel that way. Isn't that just a part of our nature?
